Rich, Francis M., M. D., Buffalo, was born in Dayton, Cattaraugus county, N. Y., January 17, 1845, a son of
James M. and Matilda (Johnson) Rich. He attended the district schools and later received an academic course at
Forestville Academy. At the age of nineteen he began teaching school, which he followed but a short time when he
took up the study of medicine with Dr. C. C. Johnson of Gowanda. February 15, 1872, he was graduated from the Eclectic
Medical College of New York, and after practicing twelve years in Chautauqua county, spent one year in Philadelphia
and New York as a student in the colleges and hospitals. On March 9, 1885. he was graduated from the Bellevue Hospital
Medical College of New York. He then came to Buffalo where he settled down to the practice of his profession and
where he has resided ever since, having built up a large and lucrative practice. He is pleasantly located at No.
284 Richmond avenue, where he erected a fine residence. He is a member of the Erie County Medical Society and of
the Masonic fraternity. In 1872 he married Ellen B. Johnson of Perrysburg, Cattaraugus county, N. Y.
