Rose, Simon P., Hamburg, was born in Lancaster, Erie county, N. Y., September 16, 1846, and educated in the
district schools. August 14, 1867, he enlisted in the 8th Infy., U. S. A., and was honorably discharged August
14, 1870. He traveled four years with Barnum's Circus, in the band; was with John O'Brien as leader of the circus
band one year. He was a member of Kehr's band of Buffalo seven years and has been leader of the Hamburg Band since
1883, and plays continually for private parties. June 7, 1883, he married Mary Lawrence of Hamburg. Mr. Rose's
father, Jacob, was born in Alsace-Loraine January 9, 1820, and came to America with his parents at the age of eleven,
locating in Eden. In April, 1844, he married Margaret Fritz, formerly of his native place, and they had eleven
children.
