Van Gouten, Uriah (late of West Falls, Colden, deceased), was born in Switzerland, September 20, 1830, and educated
in the schools of his native place. November 29, 1856, he came to New York city and February, 1857, be came to
Buffalo, where he was engaged for thirty years in machine shops. In 1887 he came to Colden and bought the farm
which he owned at the time of his death, where he made a specialty of dairying. April26, 1857, he married Susan
Van Gouten and they had seven children: Uriah, Elizabeth, Susan, Mary, Christian (all deceased), John and Magdalin,
living.
