Nathan S. Godfrey was born August 15, 1809, in Orange County,. N. Y., of English ancestry on his father's side
and Welsh on his mother's. He came to the town of Benton, and to Stafford in 1826. His education was derived from
the common schools, and he has always been a farmer until he retired. In September, 1831, he moved to Elba. January
30, 1831, he married Alvira, second daughter of Andrew B. Jones, of Elba, and they have four children, viz.: Oscar
E., Malvina E., Eli N., and Andrew B. Oscar E. Godfrey was born September 10, 1833, in Elba. His education was
liberal, and he is a farmer. March 1, 1883, he married Anna E., oldest daughter of Stephen A. Shepard. Malvina
E. married Charles L. Pease, of Batavia. Eli N. Godfrey, born September 25, 1839, received an academic education,
and April i6, 1863, married Caroline L., fourth daughter of Seymour P. Hunn, of Elba. They have one son, Charles
A., born August 2, 1869, who lives at home with his parents, on road 49.
