The Green family came to America in 1750. The descendants are John, James, Jabez, Rufus, David, and Edwin R.
Jonathan David Green, a native of Rhode Island, and a sea captain, married Eunice Hopkins, and his children are
Martha, Edwin R., Mary, and Phcebe. Edwin R., of Conanicut Island, R. I., born January 12, 1788, came to Batavia
in 1846, and settled the place known as the Green farm, where he died in 1869, aged 82 years. He married Mary Hopkins,
of Rhode Island, and his children were David, Eunice, Joseph, Demaris, Mary, Edwin, Hannah, and Jonathan. Jonathan
Green, born in Laurens, Otsego County, January 17, 1821, came to Batavia in 1847. His first wife was Minerva Nash,
of Butternuts, N. Y. They had one daughter, Minerva. His second wife was Eliza A., daughter of Charles and Olive
Gould, of Batavia, and their children were Estella, Alice. Nathaniel, Edwin, and Mary. For his third wife he married
Mary J., daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Underhill) Gurney, of New Baltimore, N. Y., and they reside on the Green
homestead. Mr. Green is a breeder of American registered Merino sheep.
