Joseph Hamilton has been a resident of Batavia since 1852. He inherited a taste for engraving, and learned the trade of cutting marble in Rochester, and since coming here has established a large trade in the marble and granite line. He erected the brick block on East Main street in 1872, where he has spacious salesrooms. In March, 1877, he admitted his son John M. as a partner, and the business is now conducted under the firm name of Joseph Hamilton & Son.
