Prof. Humphrey D. Maddock was born September 25, 1839, in Taunton, England. In 1857 he came to America and settled in Buffalo, where be did such work as a boy could find to do. About 1860 he moved to Pavilion, and there learned the broom manufacturing business, and was there 12 years. He then opened a broom factory, which he carried on until 1882. In October of that year he came to the New York State Blind Institution and taught broommaking. He also has charge of the gymnasium. He married Susan M. Buck, of Buffalo.
