Ezra S. Janes, a substantial and successful farmer, was born October 15, 1835, in Lyme, Conn., and is a son
of Ezra and Mary (Haines) Janes, who were born in Brimfield, Mass., and Connecticut, respectively. Ezra J anes
was a farmer, and his children were all born in Connecticut. He came to Genesee County in 1828, and settled one
mile north of Le Roy village. In the fall of the same year he located two miles west of. Le Roy, just over the
line in Stafford, on 80 acres of land which he improved. He had five children: Israel D., Elizabeth H., Ryland
E., Mary, who died young, and Ezra S. Ezra Janes died in 1869, aged 88 years, and his wife five years prior. He
was a son of Israel Janes, of Massachusetts. Ezra S. received his education in the common schools and Le Roy and
Middlebury academies, and spent several terms-in teaching. He was married, May 22, 1866, to Margaret J. Kinner,
of this county, and their children are Mary E. and Herbert S. He located where he now resides immediately after
his marriage. He is a leading and influential member of the Baptist Church.
