John Johnson was born August 1, 1826. in Richmondville, Schoharie County, N. Y., a son of Peter and Abigail
(Crane) Johnson, natives of Schoharie County and Connecticut, respectively. Peter, a farmer, who has been living
for 35 years in Onondaga County, was born in 1795, and was a son of John, who-was born near Schenectady. Peter
was twice married. His children by his first wife were William C., Mary A., and John, and he had three children
by his second wife (Ann Eliza Perry). John, at eight years of age, began driving horses on the canal. He lived
10 years in Madison and Onondaga counties, and in March, 1859, he located on 94 acres where he now resides. He
married, December 21, 1854, Margaret E., daughter of William and Juliana (Dewey) Rogers. of Madison County, and
they have five children, viz: Ina A. (Mrs. McVean), Luella, Olena C., William D., and Bertha.
