Patterson, Jerome J., was born in the town of Elba, N.Y., January 2, 1861, ason of Jerome and Elizabeth (Crawford) Patterson, and was educated in the schools of Batavia. He learned the druggist business in this place and in 1886 became a member of the firm of W. S. & J. J. Patterson. William S. Patterson, who was a brother of the subject of this sketch, died December 3, 1898. It is doubtful if the loss of any citizen of Batavia has ever been more deeply felt by the community. Jerome J. Patterson has since continued the business. The establishment is now one of the largest in Genesee county, and has been built up on a foundation of integrity and honorable trade methods. Mr. Patterson is the inventor of a machine for the production of acetylene gas which promises results of large importance. He has spent considerable time in Europe, superintending its introduction. Mr. Patterson is a Republican and acts the part of the progressive citizen in the promotion of public affairs.
