Simpson, William C., was born in Ithaca, N. Y., in 1829, and came to Genesee county when a boy with his parents, Hiram and Mary Simpson. He married Christina, daughter of John and Mary Moore; they have one daughter, Minnie E.. wife of Dr. Benjamin F. Showerman. Mr. Simpson through life was connected with mercantile operations. He was for many years a member of the well known dry goods firm of Southworth & Simpson. After the death of his partner, Gardner T. Southworth, August 6, 1884, Mr. Simpson continued the business alone until his death. His death, which occurred August 31, 1899, was a loss not only to his family, but to all who knew him; of sterling integrity and conservative character, he represented a high standard of citizenship. He was for many years a member of the vestry of St. James church in Batavia.
