THE BATCHELLER FAMILY. THE Batcheller family is one of the early settled families of Edinburgh, and was founded by Ambrose Batcheller,
who came in 1808 from Vermont, and settled about one mile from the site of Batchellerville, which bears his name.
To Amos and Sally Batcheller were born five children. Their son Sherman. was the father of Gen. George S. Batcheller,
who served with distinction in the Civil war and then went to Egypt, where he became a judge in the Court of the
Khedive. Rensselaer, another son, had three children, one of whom is Lt.-Com. Oliver H. Batcheller, who also won
recognition in the Civil war.
