AFTER the discharge of the three months' men at Fort Constitution, July 12, 1861, a company was enlisted to garrison the fort. It was in the service of the State and was commanded by Capt. James Davidson. On the zoth of March, 1862, Captain Davidson was ordered to enlist a company of 52 men to be mustered into the service of the United States and to be stationed at Fort Constitution until otherwise ordered. Many of the men who were then performing duty at the fort in the service of the State enlisted, and on the 15th of May, 1862, the company was mustered into the United States service. It was ordered to Concord on the 2d of August, and on the 6th was transferred to the Ninth Regiment, then organizing, and became a part of Company E. One officer and six men appear to have been detached from the company and continued at Fort Constitution until October 22, when discharged.
