Bickelhaupt, Adam, was born in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, March 10, 1848. His father, Hieronemus Bickelhaupt,
came to the United States in 1853, settling in the town of Alexandria, where he was one of the practical and successful
farmers of his town. He died in 1875 in his seventieth year. Adam Bickelhaupt was educated in the common schools,
remaining on the farm until eighteen, and then entered the employ of A. A. Holmes & Co. In 1872 he engaged
in the mercantile business in which he has continued for twenty-five years, and also manufactures cheese, shipping
about 600,000 pounds of cheese per year, which is made under his supervision. In 1874 lie married Mina L., daughter
of Seth Olny, and they have three children: Miles H., Carl O. and Calla A. Mr. Bickelhaupt, is one of the representative
business men of Jefferson county, one of the largest manufacturers of cheese in the State, and has served as supervisor
for three years.
