Pollard, William H., was born at Utica, N. Y., August 6, 1848. At an early age
he was apprenticed to the machinist trade with the Utica Steam Engine Works, with whom he remained for six years.
He then removed to Whitestown to accept a position with B. T. Babbit, for whom he worked eight years. In 1878 he
removed to Watertown and entered the employ of the Eames Vacuum Brake Company as a machinist (which afterward merged
into the New York Air Brake Company). Through his faithful attention to business he was appointed general foreman,
then assistant supertendent, and in 1894 became the superintendent, in which capacity lie is now acting. Mr. Pollard
is one of Watertown's most respected and honored citizens and is a prominent member of the Lincoln League.
