Rees, William, was born in Wales, October 24, 1824, and came to the United States in 1832. He spent forty years
sailing on the lakes and for thirty years of this time held a captain's commission. He sailed into Chicago when
it was a smaller place than Clayton is to-day. He was subsequently connected with the R., W. & Alex. Bay steamboat
line for some time. He has been interested in the Clayton Bank since its organization and is vice-president of
the bank, as well as a stockholder. He was president of the village of Clayton one term and trustee for four years.
Mr. Rees married Cornelia J. Angell and they have four children: Chester W., Mrs. Charles Happ, Gertrude and Grace.
