Walch, W. R., was born in Oswego county, N. Y., February 2, 1851, a son of Myron and Eliza (Mace) Walch. His grandfather. Gideon Waich, was one of the early settlers of Sandy Creek, coming from the Mohawk valley. His father was born in Oswego county and was a carpenter by trade; he lived and died in Sandy Creek in 1889, and his wife in 1852. VT. R. Waich was educated in the common schools and learned the carpenter's trade which he followed for twenty-five years. In 1895 he bought the Woodville mills which he soon sold and in November, 1896, bought the Belleville mills, where he carries on a successful business, the mills having a capacity of 500 bushels per day. Mr. Waich was married in 1876 to Eva C. Bassinger of Ellisburgh, and they have one daughter, A. Pearl, a student in the Cortland Normal School. In politics Mr. Walch is a Republican and a member of Rising Light Lodge No. 637, F. & A. M., and is now junior warden. He attends and supports the Methodist Episcopal church, and is one of the trustees of the village of Belleville. Mr. Walch does an extensive business outside of custom work. handling from two to five car loads of feed per week.
